5 Minute Cinnamon Raisin Cereal

5 Minute Cinnamon Raisin Cereal

Good Morning and Happy Saturday! Today is a “cereal” kinda day. But I’m not talkin’ Cheerios.

I would normally be over at our local Rec Centre downtown somersaulting my way through the morning with all the little kiddos I coach, but because of Easter weekend, we’re off. So instead, some time to do a little work, hang out with my fam, and of course… a perfect Saturday in my books just isn’t complete without a good sweat, a trip to the farmer’s market and maaaybe even a stop at Chapters. Yay Saturday!

Today, I’ve got a super simple, super easy breakfast recipe for you all! Because the prep for this recipe is so nice and simple, it would make for a  great option  to get the kids involved with and the simple flavors should satisfy even the pickiest of eaters!

The thing with the typical box of cereal is that even if you’re able to stay away from the obviously sugar-packed varieties (Corn Pops, Froot Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, etc) even the cereals that are marketed as healthy, just simply aren’t. Unfortunately. Corn is one of the cheapest, most widely used, most genetically modified, and highly sprayed crop that is produced, and sadly, for this reason, it’s the Food Giant’s (Kraft, Nestle, General Mills, etc) go-to ingredient in just about anything and everything. If it isn’t corn, it’s some other sort of grain, which has been overprocessed so heavily that a very very large portion of any nutritional value the food originally had, is gone. Then comes the sugar. Lots of it. And preservatives. I could go on, but that’s another post in and of itself. The difference between this Cinnamon Raisin Cereal and your typical store bought variety is that the base of this cereal is whole, unprocessed oats, whole nuts packed with healthy fats, and natural flavorings. Real food. That’s what we’re aiming for.

The whole point here is that in my opinion, cereal is not a healthy option. I haven’t bought a box in years. There are so many other fantastically nutritious and delicious options out there, including this whip-up-a-quick-batch recipe, that I hope in time, you won’t either! Anyways, I’m pretty sure that by this time, all you are looking for is the freaking cereal recipe I promised so without further adieu, here you are! Enjoy 🙂
